It’s usually after we make the turn onto Route 121 that I know we’ve hit wine country. The seemingly endless rows of vines to your left and the two enormous gates flanking the road up to the winery on the right are kind of hard to miss. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t even a little embarrassed to admit that up until a few weeks ago, I’ve all but used Ram’s Gate as a marker for entrance into the Sonoma Valley. And since our goal is to try as many wineries as possible while we live this close to wine country, it only made sense that Ram’s Gate would be high up on that list.
One of my favorite things about living in Oakland is how close we are to wine country. We can hop in the car and in a little over an hour be kicking back on a beautiful vineyard, sipping on a glass of wine. So when it came time to decide how I wanted to celebrate my birthday, wine country was the obvious choice. I had been wanting to check out Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch in St. Helena, CA, so we decided to start there.
