I’m a big believer that you should appreciate the love you have with your partner all year round, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making a point to do a little something special together on Valentine’s Day. I don’t know what the weather has been like where you live, but it’s been raining on repeat in the Bay Area. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the sunshine, but I have to admit I’m pretty excited to have an excuse to stay in and get cozy. So in honor of this rain that just won’t quit, I thought I’d share some indoor activities you can do at home with your Valentine (uh, ok, not that — but maybe also that *wink wink*).
If you’re anything like me you need pictures, so my friend Natalia from the blog Bake No Fake and I collaborated on a little breakfast in bed styled shoot. She baked (get the recipe here), I styled, we both snapped away. I’m just going to go ahead and say right now that my bed has never looked this good. It’s usually got an extra sheet or blanket on it so our pups can jump up there. I know, I know — we should probably set some boundaries.
Oh right, those pictures. Be sure to scroll all the way down to check out those indoor Valentine’s day ideas. Enjoy!
BREAKFAST IN BED
Truth be told, I eat my breakfast in bed all the time. But it’s more likely to be a holding a bowl of instant oatmeal over my laptop as I work kind of situation. And to me there’s something so indulgent about having a proper breakfast in bed, so I say go for it.
Do you guys have a favorite actress/actor? Favorite director? Favorite genre? If not, might I suggest an Audrey Hepburn (Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Sabrina, Roman Holiday) or John Hughes binge (Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off)?
INDOOR SCAVENGER HUNT
If you’re feeling super creative, why not make a little scavenger hunt for your significant other. Sure, it’ll take a bit of planning, but think of how much fun they’ll have following your trail of clues around the house. Maybe the last clue could even lead to, I don’t know, the bedroom…
Who says you need nature to enjoy a picnic? Stretch out a blanket, grab ALL THE PILLOWS and voilà, you’ve got yourself one cozy little picnic for two. It’s so much easier to pop a bottle of champagne or make a fancy cheeseboard in the comfort of your own kitchen. PLUS, you won’t have to worry about any ants messing up your game.
Or wine, spirits, etc., but beer is probably much more economical. Browse your local liquor store and pick up a six-pack by the bottle ( World Market has a great selection too). Maybe make the process a date in itself. Anyone else remember how much fun it was to search the aisles of Blockbuster together back in the day? Oh, and you could even go thematic (by region or type of beer)!
Bust out those monogrammed aprons you got as a wedding gift (or gift each other some sweet new ones) and fire up the old laptop because things are about to get messy. Love this video for Veggie Spaghetti Bolognese from chef Jamie Oliver’s Youtube channel. Fair warming: he moves fast, so the pause button is your friend.
Is there anything more romantic than struggling through complicated choreography together? I’m talking learning that sweet lift from Dirty Dancing or recreating Channing and Jenna’s Dewan Tatum’s sexy moves from the very first Step Up. Uh… I think I just figured out what we’ll be doing this Valentine’s Day (after our breakfast in bed, of course).
Hope these ideas helped to spark that creative side of you. Any ideas how you’ll be spending this Valentine’s Day?
